Hello world. I finally decided to start my own blog and I would like to just quickly examine some reasons and motivations for that.
Everyone’s doing it
The more I get into the tech community, the more I see that everybody is doing their own blog. I want to be part of that.
Start a fucking blog!
You know this website? I read it and I liked it. The arguments from there in short:
- Own your data! I am pretty good in the way of doing that. One of my last achievements was hosting my own Anki Sync Server which is really neat because I am using Anki daily and was relying on an external service there. Most of my data was sitting on my own servers already anyways, now my Anki data followed. It was just logical to also publish the findings of my research and learnings in my own hands.
Technically, World4You is hosting my site (thanks for that!), so when opening this page, you did not communicate with my personal server. But I can live with that. The raw data is still in my possession. - Fuck the algorithms! My data should be where I want it to be and it should not rely on any algorithm.
- Fuck the companies! Elon just showed how fast an important large company can be essentially destroyed. I do not want my content to face the same destiny.
Be present in the online world
I want to have some kind of presence online where people can come and look at my stuff and tell me that this is shit (still influenced by startafuckingblog.com, language-wise). I did not really have that until now, this should help.
I want to communicate!
I realize that some of the stuff I am learning may not be that interesting for anybody else - probably, the stuff I am writing is either too complicated or too trivial for you. Still, I want to write it down. Also, you may not be “anybody”.
Learn Hugo!
I got to know Gohugo when I started tweaking the Grazer Linuxtage website. In fact, to this date, I believe that there is no page on the GLT website which I did not touch in one or another way. Also, I rewrote the whole technical part of the website and I believe I can gladly say that I know their website by heart.
And in the time of doing so, I learned to use and to love Hugo. Now it is time to give something back to the world - and be it only this little, useless blog.
